Why choose our public preschool?
Rozelle Public School Preschool is a fee-free, Exceeding-rated early learning service located on the school grounds, making it a convenient and welcoming choice for local families. Open Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm, our preschool caters to 40 children attending 2-3 days per week, providing a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
At Rozelle Preschool, children engage in play-based learning that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and encourages exploration. Our dedicated team supports each child’s growth through fun, hands-on activities within secure routines. We focus on developing not only educational outcomes but also essential social skills like empathy, cooperation, and resilience, helping children build strong relationships and a positive sense of self.

Preschool days and hours
To comply with the Australian Government’s National Partnership Agreement on Early Childhood Education, which mandates a minimum of 15 hours of care per week, the Preschool operates two classes following a five-day per fortnight schedule:
Class 1
- Week A: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
- Week B: Monday, Tuesday
Class 2
- Week A: Thursday, Friday
- Week B: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
The Preschool is open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm during the school term.
Fees
We do not charge fees to attend our preschool. NSW public preschools are funded by the NSW government.
Attendance
Public preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.
Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn 4 years of age before 31 July that year.
Meals
Children bring their own meals and snacks to preschool. For more information, please speak to one of our preschool staff.
How To Enrol - The Application Process
Preschool is a crucial foundation for children's development, and we are proud that Rozelle Public School offers a program led by Sandy Dorn-Steger. Under her guidance, children receive supportive and enriching experiences that enhance their social, emotional, and cognitive growth, preparing them well for their future learning journeys.
For families considering preschool at Rozelle in 2026, here is important information regarding the Expression of Interest process:
● Application Timeline: Expressions of Interest to enrol in Rozelle Public School Preschool for 2026 will be accepted from 9:00am on Monday 28 April 2025.
● How to Apply: Families can express their interest by completing the expression of interest to enrol in a NSW public preschool (PDF 316.2 KB). The completed application can be emailed or submitted directly to the RPS office. EOIs will be time and date stamped upon receipt. Please note that applications cannot be accepted before 9:00am on Monday 28 April 2025.
● Priority Consideration: NSW public preschools prioritise enrolment for those most vulnerable in our community, as determined by the NSW Department of Education guidelines. Priority is given to:
● Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children
● Children living in low socioeconomic circumstances
● Children unable to access other early childhood services due to disadvantage
● First Placement Offers: First round offers are made to children living within the Rozelle Public School catchment area.
● Form B: In addition to the EOI, the Preschool Enrolment panel requires families to complete Form B. This should be submitted with your EOI. Hard copies of both forms are available from the school office.
● Application Deadline: Applications will close at 3:00pm Friday 27 June 2025.

Games and Puzzles
Our wide variety of games and puzzles—from simple peg jigsaws to complex floor puzzles and classic board games—promotes resilience, turn-taking, and rule-following while enhancing problem-solving, spatial awareness, pattern recognition, and hand-eye coordination, laying a strong foundation for early reading and writing in a fun, engaging way.
Art & Craft
Our painting easel and craft trolley encourage creativity and skill-building as children explore materials, learn about size, shape, and pattern, and express their ideas through art. They also promote problem-solving, collaboration, and perseverance using diverse tools and media.
Nature play
Our playground and woodland areas immerse children in nature play, while exploring seasons. Our garden provides hands-on learning about plants, life cycles, sustainability, and nutrition through gardening and harvesting.
Outdoor fun
Our active play areas—including the woodland, tiger turf, and marked paths—offer children fun ways to develop running, jumping, catching, and balancing skills through games, obstacle courses, tricycle rides, and team sports, supported by equipment and educator-led lessons that promote physical activity, teamwork, and confidence.
