High potential and gifted education

At Rozelle Public School, we are proud to align our approach with the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) policy, which recognises the diverse strengths and needs of gifted and high potential students. We are committed to identifying and nurturing these strengths early, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.

"I really enjoyed researching an interesting and notable person I chose, and being able to decide both who to research and how to present my work made the learning experience really enjoyable." - Juliet Year 3

Our dedicated HPGE Coordinator leads a thorough assessment and identification process to tailor support for each student’s unique abilities, ensuring they receive enriching academic opportunities such as participation in the NSW Maths Olympiad Program and the UNSW ICAS testing program, both designed to challenge and inspire students. A key component of our enrichment program involves engaging students in units of work embedded in the Bloom's Taxonomy model, which fosters the development of higher-order thinking skills that are sophisticated, intellectual, and complex. By incorporating this model, our units can be tailored to students’ interests and strengths, providing a personalised and stimulating learning experience.

Beyond academics, our students shine in a wide range of pursuits. With strong representation in PSSA Sport at zone carnivals and team events, extensive performing arts opportunities—including Band, Dance, Strings, and Senior Debating—and leadership development initiatives like our Green Team and Class Senator programs, we empower students to excel holistically and make a positive impact within the school community.

Enrichment activities and immersive overnight excursions for Years 4, 5, and 6 further broaden student horizons and foster curiosity and growth.

Our program is grounded in the Four Domains of Potential that guide student development:

Creative Domain: We nurture imagination, invention, and originality, empowering students to explore new ideas and express themselves creatively.

Intellectual Domain: Our curriculum promotes critical thinking, reasoning, understanding, and the ability to transfer learning across contexts, building strong intellectual foundations.

Physical Domain: We encourage physical development through activities that enhance muscular movement and motor control, supporting healthy and active lifestyles.

Social-Emotional Domain: We cultivate self-management skills and positive relationships, helping students develop emotional intelligence and thrive socially.

At Rozelle Public School, we create a vibrant and supportive environment where gifted and high-performing students can shine across all areas of learning and development. Join us in celebrating and nurturing your child’s exceptional talents and passions.
