Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histo-ries, cultures, and achievements, and to ex-plore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for National Reconciliation Week re-main the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. The theme for this year’s National Reconciliation Week is "Grounded in Truth—Walk Together With Courage". At the heart of reconciliation is the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples which must be grounded in a foundation of truth.

All classes participated in teaching and learning activities to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and achievements and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. Amiah and Zac’s mum, Belinda, came in to work with preschool. Their activities are recorded on the next page. At assembly on Friday Year 5 Wiradjuri read some of the very moving poems they wrote during the week to explore the reconciliation journey.
